When I first started wearing makeup I didn’t know one thing about it. I slapped it on my face, thought I looked stunning and called it a day.

My obsession was getting that flawless look you see on the Kardashians. I wanted my makeup to look so professional and I was barely starting out with makeup. Looking back on pictures, I find it hilarious. My makeup was all over the place! Mascara was messy, cakey foundation, brows looking like I did them with a sharpie. But hey, at least I was confident in myself.

Over time I have definitely improved and really learned techniques to get smooth, blended makeup (thank you YouTube!)

I want to share with you guys specific tips to get flawless foundation that lasts all day. No cakey texture or having it come off half way through the day. It’s really important to focus on your foundation because it’s the base of your makeup. Foundation makes or breaks the rest of your makeup. Your foundation should be smooth and blended, but enough coverage you want so any other product you put on top will also blend on perfectly. I want to talk about what products I use, how/why I use them, and in what order so that I get flawless foundation every single time.

Let’s get into it.

Makeup starts with a fresh face. I am totally obsessed with skincare and could go on and on about it, but that’s for another post.

Basically, skincare is so essential because it’s what sets the tone for your makeup!

Next is primer.

I would use moisturizer as primer at first and let me tell you that was the biggest mistake. My makeup looked very textured, move around, and would come off by the end of the day.

Never skip primer!

I love a glowy look so the Becca Backlight Priming Filter Face Primer is where it’s at. Again, my dry skin makes me want a really dewy finish, but if you’re not into that definitely pick up a primer suited for your skin type.

Applying this with your fingers should do, but I find using a beauty blender is even better because it really presses the product into my skin.

Finally… foundation! I’ve been getting more daring and trying out a ton of foundations. My current favorites are Bare Minerals BarePRO Liquid Foundation and the Wet N Wild Photo Focus Foundation. These foundations are very similar, but I have to admit that high-end products are better. Drugstore is totally doable though and I honestly live for drugstore makeup!

How you apply your foundation is key. A beauty blender is what works best for me or sometimes I’ll use a buffer brush to make the process quicker.

If you have acne or acne scares, let me tell you what I know.

Recently a friend told me how she works around her acne scars and skin texture. She uses a stippled foundation brush and dabs it in with that. What that does is help create a smooth blend on the face.

I don’t have acne so I can’t say it works for sure, but if you try it out be sure to leave your results in the comments!

The Morphe M439 Deluxe Buffer Brush works awesome with liquid foundations. It’s a dense brush so you’re getting medium to full coverage. Remember to always do a dabbing motion and very minimal swiping motions. You really want to keep the product on your face rather than having the brush pick up everything or dragging it unevenly.

This are the steps to achieve flawless, photo-ready foundation! Finish the rest of your makeup, set your face with translucent powder, and don’t forget a setting spray!

What are you trying to achieve with your foundation? Any favorite makeup looks at the moment? Be sure to show me how you foundation turned out!
